Pigeons is a community group dedicated to assisting children in improving their literacy skills and developing a passion for reading and writing. By offering project-based learning activities in line with teacher needs and objectives, Pigeons aims to cultivate creative partnerships between local public schools, authors and artists.
This identity uses type, rules, and colour to create a flexible system that can communicate in tones ranging from serious to irreverent. It is crucial that words and language play the most significant part, with illustration providing support when needed.

Pigeons encourages the physical action of writing by having students hand-write, type, cut, paste, or illustrate their work. This typographical logo reflects this physicality by drawing on traditions such as chromatic wood type, sign lettering and comic halftonewhile still retaining a colourful and contemporary feel.
Each Pigeons project has a sublogo that uses a limited range of woodtype faces supported by an icon that incorporates the "P" from the Pigeons corporate logo.

These are used by the students to correspond with their author. The design plays with the motifs of traditional mail, and allows open space for students to express themselves.
In Pigeon Pics students receive pictures in this envelope from their fictional and perennially grumpy editor. They must incorporate these pictures into their stories.
While more serious in tone, the brash logo prevents boring old "good taste and restraint" and the business card doubles as a tiny envelope.

In a final print reference, the website is a sensationalist newspaper that adds vitality to verbiage with astonishing alliteration. All of this with OUTSTANDING ORNAMENTS!!! SALACIOUS STARBURSTS!!! HOLLERING HEADLINES!!! and PROFLIGATE PUNCTUATION!!!!!
As can be seen on the front page, a collaged illustrative style can be used when needed.
