Iterations is a bi-monthly literary magazine featuring new fiction, poetry, and essays. The design offers the same qualities that literature-lovers value in a book as an artifact:

This slipcase stands out in an editorial environment dominated by full colour, gloss and specialty inks by using the simple tactile quality of kraft card with a debossed stencil illustration.
Functionally, the slipcase protects its contents like a dust jacket, doubles as postage and has a simple spine that makes for easy cataloguing and display.

Each section (Fiction, Essays, Poetry) has its own mini-magazine, designed at a size to be easily carried or stored (154mmx213mm).
The cover of each mini-magazine has a pattern that reflects its feature content. These patterns are akin to the endpapers found in sewn or perfect bound books.

The content is based on a flexible 6x5 grid. Continuous text is set in 10/12 Hoefler Text justified, a slightly larger choice than most editorial settings, but useful for continuous reading for an older readership. The uncoated, off-white stock also reduces glare.
The fiction section acts most like traditional book typography with a single block of text supported by illustration.
The flexible grid allows the essays to be set more like a magazine, with multiple columns, and thoughtful use of whitespace.
This is the freest use of the grid, so that poems can have a layout that best fits their theme or structure.
